Ultimate Intellectual?
ok I know I had promised that I wouldn’t have back to back posts from the same category.. my last post was placed under wrastlin and nostalgia… but this one is going under ranting and raving, (and wrastlin
) Here it goes:After seeing my last post my buddy Ammar who goes to UCONN (University of Connecticut) hooked me up with a video of a recent visit which the Ultimate Warrior made to their campus. He was invited by the Republican club to give a talk on his beliefs on conservatism.
In the beginning of his speech he started out giving a classic stay in school/a mind is a terrible thing to waste speech which you would expect from any celebrity turned orator. What seemed like sensible advice soon took a philosophical turn towards understanding the properties of morality. The Warrior quickly went on the offensive to denounce liberalism. Some hecklers in the crowd were harping on his comments and were waiting for the opportune moment to make a scene. The warrior provided them with a plethora of insulting comments in return.
The fireworks started when warrior said:
“Liberal thinking has created an abyss of moral relativity where everything is as legitimate as everything else…. the bum is as legitimate as the businessman … , that queers are as legitimate as heterosexuals…, that Kwanzaa is just as legitimate as Santa Claus and Christmas”
At one point one of the hecklers yelled out.. What the f- is wrong with homosexuality? and warrior says:
“queering doesn’t make the world work.” I thought he was hilarious. Remember this is the same guy who ran into the ring and shook the ropes like crazy. While he was getting mad he was stomping his foot. I mean in the ring stomping your foot has a different effect than doing it in a lecture hall. ha. It was crazy how he was taking the fight to the audience. He was asking some questions and in response some girl said the government should take care of its citizens. And he says to her “What country do you live in?… this is not a socialist country”
So after watching this video, I decide to run a search on some blog search engines to see what other people are saying about this incident. It turns out to be really hot news. The Republican club actually issued an apology for the things he said. So then the warrior denounced them on his website. He also issued a press release. If you think his website condemnation is funny wait till you read this….On the website http://www.somethingawful.com they have something called Awful link of the day. ultimatewarrior.com was featured as an awful link of the day. Much to the dismay of the warrior. So Ultimate decides to have an e-mail sent to their webmaster threatening to sue him for illegal usage of his copyrighted name. Btw Warrior beat WWF/WWE in court for the trademark on his name. And he legally changed his name to Warrior. So now here is the funny part. The exchange of emails between the webmaster for somethingawful.com and the communications director for the warrior is absolutely hilarious! This is something you must check out. Go to: http://www.somethingawful.com/articles.php?a=2790 Make sure to click on the next page button to read the entire exchange.Amendment:I forgot to mention… He went on this rant about the founding fathers being the most amazing people who ever walked this earth (ha, someone yelled out- “what about slavery!”). And then he said that America has the superior culture and civilization to the world. Then he read the oath which every naturalized citizen has to read… and then he says… that every American even the ones born here should live up to this same oath.I thought some of his points were interesting. I agree with his stance on moral relativity (I would disagree on his source of morality which is the divine, in my view) but the problem is he has a biased application of his own stated principles. For example he thinks Santa Claus and Christmas is all well and good but kwanza is not. To me both holidays are equally preposterous. They are both man made and thus if condemned both should get the same flak. He is right about there being universal principles which all man is in tune with, In Islam we call that Fitra.Anyone can look at what the Warrior is preaching and say he is a racist, anti-immigrant, anti-world (beyond our borders), one-sided, Maniac. Although he would be offended because Hulk Hogan’s followers were Maniacs, thus given the name Hulkamaniacs. But Warrior was on a different trip, one which he dubbed as Warrior Wildness. Indeed.
Edit: Here’s the video!
