The solution: DD-WRT, an alternative firmware (hack) for your router will take care of this for you.  In this case I hacked a Linksys WRT54g v 6.

Step 1: Download files for your supported router here.

Step 2: Flash your router, see instructions here (specific to WRT54G). If you have a different router when you search using the link in Step 1 (above) it will give you directions specific to your router.

Step 3: Adjust Settings to get Router to act as a Client Bridge. See here:

To test the performance I had a blu-ray HD movie streaming from Netflix, while streaming a movie from my home PC using XBMC on the original Xbox, and using the Xbox360 to play NBA Live 10 online. I was surprised to see that everything was functioning without a hiccup. I even used Tversity (which acts as windows media center server on XP) to stream videos to my xbox 360 from my home PC.

Another benefit of doing this is extending your wifis reach throughout your home. Most people use DDRT for that reason.

I just wanted to share some of these neat services Google has made available. Make sure to add the numbers in this post to your address book so you would be more likely to use it.

Text 411
Simply text message your search query to 466453 (“GOOGLE” on most devices) and we’ll text message back your results. So what are some specific examples of what type of information is available?

Flight Status
Simply text your flight number to 466453 (‘GOOGLE’ on most mobile devices), and the status information will be sent back to you. Or text a specific airline name, and Google will send back the main phone number to call. So an example would be: Flights: ua 14

Weather
Simply send the following text to 466453 (‘GOOGLE’)

so w + your zip would also work

What the heck is this crap? Gmail should have a setting called Stupid User with a checkbox. I would like to uncheck that box. This is almost as bad as Windows Vista asking me if I am sure I want to install a exe file I just double clicked on!

Here are some numbers from Hitwise on the combined traffic reach of Yahoo and MSN properties. Together, they have a 15.6 percent market share of Internet traffic in the U.S. , compared to 7.7 percent for Google properties. But Google still has double the market share in search of both Yahoo and Microsoft combined.

UPDATE: This version of the script has been tested and works on all versions of Joomla between  1.0.12 – 1.5 and WordPress 2.3.2 -2.7 and works pretty smoothly. So it should work with the latest versions of both CMS platforms! Make sure to post your success or failure and which version you were using in the comments.

Step by Step Instruction (with Screenshots):

1. Unzip Joomla2WordPress.zip
2. Edit config.php and enter all missing values

3. Upload files to /export on your server

4. Add Categories in wordpress which you want to import into
5. Open www.yoursite.com/export/index.php on a browser

6. Select either a Joomla Section, Category or Links Category

7. Select a WordPress Category to import into

8. Repeat Steps 5-7 till all of your articles have been imported

9. Enjoy and Spread the word!

Notes:-minor glitch: If you create a WP category which is empty (has no posts), the articles will import just fine, but the category may not appear in the categories widget until you open at least one post in that category in /wp-admin and just hit save. If anyone knows how to fix this minor bug

Does this seem realistic? More importantly I wonder if this will really make us more productive? I think back to the days when we didn’t have cell phones and constant internet access even the task of picking someone up from the airport could take hours. Now you can track flight status on your phone and save time by leaving as late as possible. Also the person you are picking up can give you call when the plane has touched down, which helps you know how much time you need before they will be out of baggage claim. Something as simple as that has helped make life more efficient. Leaving me with more time to watch what I conveniently recorded on my DVR.
